sorry about the spammer! How are the chickens? Mine were just making a racket and I went out there to tell them to hush and spooked a red shouldered hawk. I guess they were saying "help mama!"
Sounds yummu! What about local goat's milk cheese from Bosky Acres? Would that work? Also, I hear the Bradford store in Huntersville area has local cheeses.
I am working on the assumption that we will do this one together. I know not where as of yet, but if it stays small, we can always do it at our place. So far one couple has signed up to take the class. Did my article come out ok in the newsletter? I didn't get to see the newsletter before I left, so was planning to check it out on the website, but have forgotten the address. Do you have it perchance? I was trying to remember the date I suggested for the class. I seem to remember it being after the first of Jan. THe newsletter met several delays getting out and so I gave up the original date I had wanted, which was soon after I return from Spain. Then there is the holiday stuff to deal with, so Jan. seemed the best choice if I recall my thinking. It seems so long ago that I wrote the article. I would imagine you might be able to get a bag of laying mash from Borys and mix the two for now, rather than waste the starter food. The reality is that they are still developing, even though they are laying, so they can use the starter food for a while longer. Then maybe we can work out a sharing of the REnfrow runs- you go one time, we go the next or something like that, to save us both going such a long way every time. WE generally go out there every 4-6 weeks and stock up on feed to save the driving. See you soon, d
Hi Joan from Spain- Borys tells me that the younger girls are all laying now and he has merged to two flocks so that they now all sleep together and eat laying mash together and the new girls follow him around. Looks like there will be a new Rosita, maybe one for each of us. Glad to hear that your girls are happy too. ANy problem with your neighbors? I think I have tracked down some already flourishing organic bee hives. I will know more when I get back, After the article in the paper a couple of weeks ago, an elderly gentleman who has raised bees for eons in his organic garden contacted me via a new friend from the article and offered to sell me his bees, hives and equipment. I will seal the deal when I return after Dec. 7. Looking forward to hearing more about your girls, etc. d
Congratulations!!! I'm SO jealous! I checked yesterday and did not have any but will keep my fingers crossed. Ours are free range when we are home, but Saturday all escaped when we were out running errands. We want to expand their running pen. but they are good about staying in our fenced backyard. We are not feeding them laying mash and we are also not supplementing their daylight but sounds like we may not need to. Congrats again and hope you have omelets for Thanksgiving!
Do you have eggs yet? I don't and just wondering how diligent I should be about checking for them at this point. We still have all 5 and are enjoying them immensely!
Debbie started a plant swapping discussion and I thought you might want to join in. You could actually upload that document you brought to the training with all the plants you have available right into your reply. Let me know if you need help
Welcome Joan! Glad to have you join the site. In the "Events" section, you'll see we have our next HAWK meeting early September. Hope you will make plans to come check it out.
We have a good group and great speakers at the meetings.
Just a suggestion, but I would change your address to simply say -Charlotte.
