I would like to personally invite you to participate in the planting of longleaf pine trees as outlined under the events calendar dated February 13, 2010. This is a Saturday outing and will involve a drive to Southern Pines, NC located in the Sandhills of NC. There will be a similar opportunity on the following two Saturdays Feb 20 and Feb 27. I am working to help organize as large of a turn-out as possible. This event is being sponsored by The Nature Conservancy of North Carolina and will give all participants a first hand look at the longleaf pine ecosystem and an opportunity to offset part of our carbon footprint. You can call me at (980) 875-8900 for more details.
Hannah, thanks for the comment and we need more enthusiastic ppl like you. There are a lot of great events going on and I encourage you to get in touch with Katie McKeithan. She is a leader in the Raleigh chapter and they are doing great things in that part of the state. She's a member on this site and I'm sure would love to hear from a dedicated wildlife enthusiast like you! Thanks again for joining.
Saw your comment to Carol and couldn't help myself to welcome you to the NCWF networking site add my two cents worth. Fourty some odd years ago I too majored in Zoology and got my Masters degree from UCLA. However life events caused me to take a career path that included the Army, Medical Techology and Blood Banking. But I never lost sight of nature, especially birding. Today, more so then in the past, there are some really great opportunities to get invovled in meaningful organizations and activites like the NCWF, the Habitat Steward program, composting, "Bringing Nature Home" (native plants + native insects = survival of our native ecosystems), & native plant societies. There are all sorts of opportunities to get invovled and make a difference in your life and others. Best wishes for a happy and meaningful life and career. Richard
