A family of deer with 2 babies came walking down our street today (we are near the intersection of 485 and Rea Road in the Ballantyne area of south Charlotte). They must have been scared and/or their habitat destroyed, as there is a lot of construction here. I am so worried about them. There are no woods that they can access without crossing busy roads. Does anyone know of any organization who will relocate displaced deer? Isn't it the developer's responsibility?
I live near Hwy 51 and Elm - not far from there. I've seen a doe with twins cross Elm, near the 4-mile creek greenway. There are tons of deer in this area, I've had as many as 5 at one time in my back yard. They travel from the wooded area near Calvary Church throughout the greenway. It's my theory that they cross a lot of streets around here all the time, probably mostly in the middle of the night. They probably found their way back to the woods last night, but let us know if you see them in that same area again.
Thanks so much for replying. I have not seen them and have been looking. I was worried that there are no woods near here large enough for them to survive...?
Last year I saw a buck dead on Providence Rd. near light at Providence Plantation. It was so sickening.
I've also seen a doe with 2 babies crossing Blakeney Heath near Omni Montessori. They came out of the woods suddenly; if I wasn't going slow I might have hit them. I worry about this kind of thing and am so grateful that your organization is concerned.
