To advocate the conservation and enhancement of all wildlife and its habitat.

Hello,
I would like to learn how to propagate and graft nut and fruit bearing shrubs and trees (intended for wildlife consumption for the most part). Does anyone have suggestions on where I might a workshop, class, or willing instructor? I ask because I have found it challenging (and expensive) to find nurseries that raise Pawpaws; and although other nurseries carry shrubs and trees like elderberries, hazelnuts, etc. shipping is quite expensive.

Thanks,
Laura

Dear Laura,

You should definitely attend the Native Plant sale put on by the North and South Carolina Native Plant Societies. It's held at the Museum of York County.

Here's the link:

Also try Carolina Wetland Services, they have a native plant nursery and they are local. Lots of great plants

The NC Native Plant society holds an annual plant propagation workshop in October/November. I'll try to let you guys know about our meetings and meeting topics.

Also if you join the NC Native Plant Society you will be supporting our efforts to spread the word about natives in our area. Application available at www.ncwildflower.org

I also located this place to buy milkweed plants for monarchs! Proceeds help the SC Wildlife Federation!

I need to scratch my support of the purchase of the milkweed plant in the response below. When I looked up the plant, I discovered it was a native of South America. The American native is tuberosa asclepias, which I knew...but I assumed that curassavica was also native. My mistake.
