i can't figure out the calendar thing either. im pretty sure its a widget but i cant see how to add it. also, is there a way i can either shrink or remove my profile? i moved it to the left nav, but its pretty huge.
finally, is it weird to comment my own page? i have some gardening events coming up but im not sure if the entire group would be interested, etc. (like the waxhaw fall festival, the MGs will have a booth and demo).
thanks!

I don't think its weird to comment on your own page, but maybe I'm weird too? I have my Smell Like Dirt stuff on there and the RSS feed from my blog on there. I don't know if you can remove or shrink your profile. I'll nose around and maybe Ernie will too
When you are signed in, and on your page where the "My Events" are listed, select the "Edit" button along the top bar of this section. From the edit section, you will see "Display" and from that drop-down list you have the choice of Calendar or Details. My setting is on Calendar which shows the current month. I also have the "My Events" moved to the center of my page which gives it more room. If you have it on the left or right side of your page, there may not be enough space and it defaults to a condensed setting.
See my comment to Carol about the Calendar view and give it a try. As far as the profile thing, right now, I think its a Ning default setting. If you have the option of leaving something blank, it will not show up on your profile and thus reduce the size somewhat. I put my profile on the left of my page and it doesn't seem too large. The difference is when we first started we didn't have the section where we ask you to list your first and last name. We wanted everyone to be equal in that respect and had several members listing just a first or "nickname". When that restriction was added, it took up more room in the Profile section. I would like to be able to reduce the font size and hope that will come in an upgrade.
Go right a head and add comments on your own page. However, if the event has any connection to the purpose of this group, consider listing in as an Event. They are self deleting after the event date, so we don't have to maintain this area much.
Good Questions!
The way events get added to your page is to RSVP to the event you want to attend. BUT, if you want to add events for other ppl to see, you can add it into the space below your profile. You have a lot of space there to add details of the events, upload pics and documents, etc. Ernie, do you have other ideas for her?
cool, i will try that. btw, i am so impressed with your ning site i've created one for ucmgva, ucmgva.ning.com. i've added links to these sites, please let me know if you'd rather me use a different one. also, i'd love to add hawk meetings to my events calendar, but would like to use the hawk logo for their graphic (it makes me add one). would that be okay?
great! These sites are fun. And yes to the HAWK logo. Do you need me to send the file to you or can you download from this site? We had to use the scrunched up version so its square instead of rectangular.
you know, i was going to ask about sizing. im using a graphic from master gardners, but it seems really huge. if you wouldnt mind sending it to me, that would be great! had a lot of interest in hawk from the members yesterday, hopefully folks can make the next meeting. :>
