Edible mushrooms in Boone include the delicious and expensive porcini mushroom, along with chanterelles and other delectables. Dr. John Walker is a Mycologist in the Biology Department at Appalachian State University. He is a mushroom specialist and his research focuses on the relationship between plants and symbiotic fungi and the diversity and systematics of ectomycorrhizal fungi. Meet in the parking lot of the Broyhill Inn at 9:00 am. The hike will take place in ASU woods and will last until 12:00 pm. Cost is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. All proceeds will benefit PACT, the local branch of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation. Sign up early as space is limited to 10 people.
