Event Description

On July 18, Dr. Gary Walker will lead a tour of the plants and animals that live on the sides of local cliffs. Dr. Walker will take the tour to Table Rock on the Blueridge Parkway and explain the amazing and little understood ecosystems that thrive on the cliffs. Dr. Walker is one of the few experts on cliff side ecology in the world. He is a biologist at Appalachian State University, and his work has been featured in popular magazines, including Outside Magazine. This tour may be of special interest to rock climbers who want to know more about the environment where they climb. The tour will meet in the Earthfare parking lot at 9:00 am. Dr. Walker will take the group in a van to Table Rock and the tour will last until noon. Cost is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. All proceeds will benefit PACT, the local branch of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation. Sign up early as space is limited. For more information on how to sign up email Natalie Best at natalieebest@hotmail.com.
